AGENDA FOR MARCH 9-13

Announcements and Events:

*Students' mixed media portraits from the Belief Project are hanging in JHMS Commons! Come and have a look! It is very impressive work!


*Mark your Calendars! On Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30, JHMS will be hosting a parent night on “Social Networking.”No longer can parents know who their child is communicating with by who is calling on the phone. The internet and technological advances have opened up a whole new world for your children. Karla Swiggum, our amazing media center specialist, and Steve Whisenand, from the Teton County Public Library, will provide information on these programs. Learn how these programs work, the ways kids connect, as well as the benefits and dangers this new technology may bring.

*PAWS Testing begins on March 11. Students will be testing in Language Arts on the following dates: March 11, 12, 1316, 18, 19, 20, 23. Bring SSR books to class on these dates.

MONDAY:
1) Share WNB #13: Police Report

2) Brain Pop: Similes and Metaphors

2) Read "Born Worker" by Gary Soto. Locate and identify four similes in the piece.

TUESDAY:
1) Brain Pop Review: tone and mood. Discuss tone and mood of "Born Worker."

2) Respond to "Born Worker": Compare and contrast the characters of Arnie and Jose. In pairs, use T-Chart to record details/cite page numbers that the author uses to characterize the two.

3) WNB #14: Create two chunk paragraph using your T-chart to compare and contrast the two main characters in the story "Born Worker."

*Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences coming up on March 3rd and 4th from 3:15-7:15. Students received a sign up sheet from their home base teachers.

MONDAY AND TUESDAY:

Book Fair Visits: 5th Period on Monday/3rd, 4th, and 7th on Tuesday.

1) Read Edgar Allen Poe's "The Tell Tale Heart"
Focus on mood, irony, and predicting plot

2) Begin WNB #13: Write a police report from the officers' perspective using the plotting chart. Length: 2-3 paragraphs.

WEDNESDAY:

1) Graded Lit. Terms Clicker Quiz

2) Finish up police report

THURSDAY:

"Moon" by Chaim Potok read-aloud and response activity
